Twitter Chat

January 19th, 2010

golfinfobotAs many of you know, I have been spending a bunch of my research time on Twitter talking with some very talented coaches from all over the world.  I have learned and shared a great many things.  I highly encourage all of you that seek information about the golf swing or coaching to follow me there @johngrahamgolf.  Twitter is not an updating service like many think it is.  For me it has turned into a portal to seek out information.  It is limited to posts of 140 characters but we work around that.  Bascially, it is like text messaging someone but anyone that follows you receives the message.  So, for every tweet I reach almost 200 people.  Personally, I keep my followers and the ones I am following under close attention to see that they aren’t spamming or only selling.

In the next month or two, I hope to organize a twitter chat.  This is an event that takes place on twitter where we target a specific conversation for a certain amount of time and tag the discussion with special #-tags so we know who is participating.  Due to time zones and scheduling, I’m sure it will take some time to organize.

I’m asking for some input on a topic from all who read this blog post.  Please leave an idea in comment area below.  Include your twitter handle so I can keep you up to date with our progress.  Our band of highly trained professionals covers many areas and will surely be an important part of this event.

Golf Blog Feeds

December 30th, 2009

I am currently in the process of creating a section on my forum where I can import rss feeds and I’m wondering if there are any golf pros that would like to have their blog feed display in another venue to increase exposure and ranking.

let me know if you are interested and I can fill you in on the the details.  If you are the kind of person that goes and looks at a bunch of different blogs, this would give all of us a single place we could go to read them all.

Best Camera for Golf Lessons

December 27th, 2009

I’ve read on a couple of other forums where people have asked, “What is a good camera to use for video lessons?”  Personally, for the price and performance, I think the Casio EX-fh20 is the best.  Granted, it is the one I use and I haven’t tried any others, but it is powerful, portable and easy to use.  All of the slow motion video that I have posted on my YouTube channel was captured with my Casio EX-fh20.

You will see how good it is at capturing frames per second(fps) in three main speeds: 210, 420 or 1000(fps) and here’s an example of my swing from this summer shot using the 420.

Golf Lessons in Rochester, NY

April 2nd, 2009
I’ve been teaching in Rochester for almost 10 years now and it still amazes me how good some players are from this area. This is a short season. There’s no other way to look at it. Still, some very good golfers come from this area. Jeff Sluman being the only major champion but mulitiple players at SEC powerhouse golf schools, NCAA Player of the Year and some great junior players have come from this town.

I wish I could teach year round as I’m sure you wish you could play year round. I’ve made it a goal to try and be the best teacher in a 20 mile area. I want my students beating everyone else. I will always be searching for better ways to do things, say things, show things and teach things. I don’t think it is a bad thing to learn from mistakes. I have never had a hard time admitting mistakes. I’ve always felt it showed how much I cared to tell someone I did it wrong and here’s how we fix it.

Every year, I feel like I learn so much in the offseason that I wonder if I wouldn’t be as good a teacher if I taught all year. Would I have enough time to find out all the information coming down the pike? I don’t know and I don’t see me moving in the foreseeable future.

So, if you are looking for golf lessons in Rochester, you have come to the right place. I don’t believe there is one best way for everyone and I have just as much fun teaching a beginner as I do helping someone try to make golf a career.  You can find out more about me and how the schedule a lesson at my home website.

Hopefully, one of my students will reach a point in their life where they can play the game they love and raise a family from the money earned on the course.
