This past weekend saw the start of the Monroe Community College golf season. Friday was the team’s first match at the Mohawk Valley CC Invitational. This year saw a venue change to Skenendoa CC. Monroe was off to fast start in the cold and windy weather and came out with the individual medalist in Eric Principino’s 76 and a team winning score of 313.
The Broome Community College Invitational was played on Saturday at the Endwell Greens GC. Again, Monroe CC walked away with the individual medalist in Ben Finn’s 74 and a team winning score of 301.
This year’s team consists of 11 fine players. The competition amongst the team should provide a healthy dose of pressure during qualifiers elevating everyone’s game.
Stay tuned here for continued information on how the team is doing.
Next up is a two day tournament in Jamestown followed by a single day event in Erie.
Ok, so the regular season is over and we begin preparing for the post season. Our Region III Championship will begin Monday, May 17th at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University. A very nice place that annually hosts the New York State High School Championship. The five players competing for Monroe CC are Matt Dejohn(@dejohnmd4), Eric Principino, Ben Finn, Tim McCall(@tmccallgolf) and Taylor Page.
During the regular season, we won every tournament entered and also had a team member win medalist honors in all but one event. The team was very deep and competitive and should be very strong for next year also.
